The poppy is one of the most well-known flowers and is easily identified by it's vivid red hues. There are over 70 varieties including field poppies, oriental poppies, and Himalayan poppies and Welsh poppies. The most well known meaning of a poppy is that of remembrance. In Eastern cultures however, the red poppy is a symbol of love and success and is often associated with romantic gestures.

One of the most lavish flowers you can grow is the peony, which also makes wonderful cut flowers. Since they are expensive to purchase in florists, it makes sense to grow a few plants in your own garden to enjoy inside. Coming in shades of pink, white, yellow and red they have a spicy scent.

3. Wallflowers

Wallflowers are a great spring bedding plant, which go well with tulips. They are also great in flower arrangements inside to enjoy their beauty and smell; they come in a variety of colours and scents, but are most often yellow.

4. Chamomile Daisy

Part of the large daisy plant family Asteraceae, Chamomile Daisies grow in the wild in Europe and have long been valued for their therapeutic properties. One of the most well-liked herbal teas in the world is chamomile tea, which is produced from dried chamomile flowers. The flowers look very similar to regular daisies but they are larger and grow on taller stems.

The Hawthorn or May Tree, often known as the "faerie tree," is a lovely thorny little tree that can grow to a great age and can be found in the harshest of environments.

The blossom first appears on the tree at the beginning of May, during Beltane or May Day celebrations, when people and homes were decorated with may blossoms ("bringing home the May"). The May blossom's cutting had immense symbolic meaning, signifying the initiation of new life and the start of the growing season.
